PCG: Monitoring Control and Surveillance (MCS) 3004 vessel manned by the Philippine Coast Guard and Bureau of Fishery and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region Office 6 personnel apprehended fishing banca “Marc Ivan” while conducting illegal fishing at the vicinity waters three nautical miles off Gaas Point, Enrique Magalona, Negros Occidental last Friday, June 8.
The team sighted the said fishing banca on actual trawl fishing or “Hulbot-Hulbot” fishing method while conducting maritime patrol at the said vicinity. Aside from the fishing banca “Marc Ivan”, another unregistered fishing boat was immediately seized while trying to escape from the area by cutting the nets, scare lines and other equipment.
The two fishing vessels, crew and its equipment were properly turned-over to BFAR RO6 for processing, documentation and filing of appropriate charges in violation of RA 10654 “An Act to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate, Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing, amending Republic Act 8550, otherwise known as “The Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998 and other Purposes”.
