PCG: Personnel of Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGS) Aroroy together with Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) of the Municipality of Aroroy successfully disembarked all 17 passengers and five crew including the boat captain onboard Motorbanca “Lupango Jr” that encountered steering casualty at vicinity waters off Aroroy, Masbate last June 13.

Motorbanca “Lupango Jr” is a passenger cargo with 16.92 gross tonnage / 10.92 net tonnage, owned and operated by Jr Lupango with business address at Aroroy, Masbate.

At around 3PM of the said date, a certain Jr Lupango appeared at CGS Aroroy and reported the said incident. Immediately, joint personnel of PCG and MDRRMC proceeded to the incident area to verify the veracity of the report. The joint rescue team conducted towing operations of the distressed motorbanca to Aroroy Port. While the said motorbanca was docked and secured at the said port, PCG personnel assisted all passengers and crew all in good physical condition.

According to the skipper of the distressed motorbanca Rene Espanilla, the helm shaft of their motorbanca accidentally broke that resulted to a rudder failure while they were transiting at vicinity waters off Colorado Point approximately six nautical miles away from Aroroy Port. He then decided to stop the engine upon noticing that their motorbanca was moving towards the wrong direction.
