PCG: Personnel of Coast Guard Station (CGS) Butuan still continues its inspection after a vessel, β€œLCT Islander-10”, carrying 25,969 liters of diesel fuel without cargo onboard ran aground at shoreline of Brgy Tinigbasan, Tubay, Agusan del Norte last 08 July.

CGS Butuan received a phone call from a certain Ms. Sarah Gonzales, an agent of another shipping company informing that an alleged agrounding incident transpired in the said area. Immediately, CGS Butuan contacted Mr. Nathaniel Pintac, Chief Engineer of abovementioned vessel to confirm the said report.

Investigation revealed that while LCT Islander-10 with 21crew onboard was transiting at vicinity waters of said barangay they encountered big waves and strong current that resulted to the agrounding of said vessel. Further, Mr. Pintac informed the Coast Guard that the vessel incurred three holes in its hull.

Joint team composed of CGS Butuan together with Special Operations Force and Marine Environmental Protection Unit in Butuan proceeded to the incident area to conduct further investigation and ocular inspection. However, due to inclement weather, joint team decided to temporarily terminate the operation.

As of press time, joint team resumed its operations and conducted Vessel Safety Enforcement Inspection today to inspect and monitor any signs of oil spill within the reported area.
