PCG: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is urging the riding public to avoid engaging with colorum vessels which pose risks to safety and lives of people as they are not sanctioned by the PCG. This came after an incident last July 29, where an undocumented boat with 12 persons onboard sank 200 meters southwest of Light Station Culasi Point in Roxas City, Capiz.
Around 3:50 PM on said date, Mr. Victor Hablo of Brgy. Culasi, Roxas City, Capiz reported to CGS Capiz that an unknown motorbanca is sinking at said area. Immediately, Coast Guard Capiz SAR team conducted response operations.
Upon arrival of the SAR team in the reported vicinity, they sighted a half-submerged motorbanca and immediately transferred its passengers to a fishing vessel, FV San Juan, which was coordinated by the Coast Guard to render assistance.
The rescued crew and passengers of the distressed boat were identified as following names:
1. Zaldy Anda (Skipper), 40y.o, male
2. Thor Agelos (Crew), 25 y.o, male
3. Roly Bayeta, 39y.o, male
4. Niño Pabanes, 25y.o male
5. Francisco Cabarte, 33y.o, male
6. Jay Castañeda, 32y.o male
7. Emsi Seberano, 26y.o female
8. Jean Salvarico, 28y.o female
9. Michelle Martinez, 27y.o, female
10. Jesus Ziban, 33 y.o male
11. Joemari Macario, 24y.o, male
12. Weljohn Seberano, 32y.o, male
Investigation revealed that the said boat was hired by a certain Jesus Ziban for a trip to Tuwad Island in Roxas City departed from People’s Park, Brgy. Baybay, Roxas City. While underway back to Roxas City, the boat was battered by big waves and strong winds which caused her to take in water and started to sink. The distressed boat was later towed to Culasi Port in Roxas City.
Moreover, all rescued crew and passengers of the boat were in good condition and were later released by CG Station Capiz after the investigation. As per statement from CGS Capiz, appropriate violations will be charged against the owner and captain of the said motorbanca.
