The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) welcomed the Korea Coast Guard (KCG) Training Vessel 3011 “Badaro” as it officially visits the country for the first time today, 10 September at South Harbor, Port Area in Manila.

KCG 3011 “Badaro” is a training vessel for a total of 69 cadets of the Korean Coast Guard Academy (KCGA). Badaro, one of the 13 Tae Pyung Yang (Pacific)-class vessel which has a total length of 100 meters and equipped with a helicopter and other modern technology. The vessel is under the helm of Superintendent Oh Tae Og.

To welcome the KCG contingent, a company sized arrival honors was rendered to the vessel’s Commanding Officer, Superintendent Oh Tae Og and received by Rear Admiral Rolando D Legaspi PCG, Deputy Commandant for Operations, Captain Armando A Balilo PCG, Commander Coast Guard Public Affairs Office, Captain Vivien Jane E Cay PCG, Deputy Chief of Coast Guard staff for Education and Training and his staff. Subsequently, Superintendent Oh Tae Og also paid a courtesy call to ADM Hermogino at the PCG national headquarters in Manila.

As capacity building measures of the two agencies, the goodwill visit will conduct an academic subject-matter expert exchange with regards to the best practices in providing effective medical support for emergencies needed on ships using air assets. The activity will be participated by the KCG staff and cadets; and PCG’s personnel under Coast Guard Aviation Force, Coast Guard Medical Service, Coast Guard Action Center (CGAC) and students under the Coast Guard Education and Training Command.

Aside from the academic exchange, a visit to the PCG’s facilities such as the CGAC, National Coast Watch Center and PCG’s K9 facility with the KCGA President, Senior Superintendent General Kyo Myung Sik will be scheduled to the KCG delegation. Exchange visits to the PCG and KCG vessels will also be facilitated for the participants.
