PCG: Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Bauan and Marine Environmental Protection Unit Southern Tagalog Luzon (MEPU-STL) personnel contained approximately 20 to 30 liters of spilled used oil within the waters off Bauan Boulevard, Batangas yesterday, 06 October 2018.

The said sub-station received the alleged oil spill incident report from CG Station Batangas and together with MEPU-STL, they immediately responded to the said report at the shoreline of Rosana Beach Resort. Upon arrival, they conducted ocular inspection and found out some traces of oil sheens in front of the said resort and further conducted foot patrol at the adjacent shoreline to monitor some fisherfolk activities which may cause the said incident but yielded negative result.

The team decided to proceed to Bauan Boulevard for further shoreline inspection and found out that certain concentration of oil was contained at the enclosed area near river mouth, 50 to 100 meters away from the said resort.

As per assessment, the spilled oil was characterized as used oil which easily disperse through weathering process. The team utilized the application of oil dispersant and conducted water sampling at nearby anchored vessels for oil fingerprinting analysis. Subsequently, the team brought water samples to the Headquarters of Marine Environmental Protection Command for water examine.

As of press time, the said team continued the oil spill monitoring today.
