PCG: Joint team of the Philippine Coast Guard and other local authorities retrieved two cadavers drowned after swimming while under the influence of liquor at vicinity of Angalacan River in Pangasinan yesterday, October 07.
Search and rescue operation was launched by the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) San Fabian, local Philippine National Police (PNP) Maritime, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) personnel.
The rescue team proceeded to the area and conducted inquiry to the cousin of the victims. Investigation revealed that Mr. Jeffrey Villanueva, 29 years old and Mr. Larry Villanueva, 36 years old, both residents of Barangay Navaluan, Mangaldan, Pangasinan were under the influence of liquor when they went swimming with two other companions at the said river. Their companions warned them not to swim at farther distance due to whirling and strong current. But the victims insistently swam and subsequently swept by strong current which caused them to drown.
The joint SAR team conducted free-dive underwater search and successfully retrieved the cadavers.
The victims were brought to Mapandan Community Hospital.
