PCG. 24 passengers including the boat captain and crew of motor banca “Calaguas I Adventure” were successfully rescued by Coast Guard in Banawang River, Camarines Norte yesterday, January 22.

Said motor banca departed Sitio Mahabang Buhangin, Brgy Mangkawayan, Calaguas Group of Island enroute to Minaogan Port in Vinzons, Camarines Norte when the boat’s propeller accidentally detached from its shafting while at the vicinity waters of said river.

A certain Mary Jane Balon reported the incident to the Duty Community Out-Post (COP) Vinzons of Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Mercedes seeking assistance regarding a distressed motor banca.

Immediately, personnel of COP Vinzons conducted search and rescue (SAR) operations onboard aluminum boat and rendered assistance to the passengers of the motor banca. The SAR team ferried the 14 passengers onboard PCG aluminum boat to Minaogan Port. The remaining ten passengers stayed onboard the motor banca while being towed by an unnamed motor banca to the shoreline of Brgy Sabang, Vinzons, Camarines Norte.

PCG personnel advised the boat captain of motor banca “Calaguas I Adventure” to file a Marine Protest relative to the incident.
