Coast Guard Substation Calbayog personnel assisted a total of twenty seven (27) passengers and eight (8) crew onboard motor banca “Justin Joy” at vicinity waters off Brgy Ipao, Calbayog City, Western Samar last Monday, January 23.

According to the report, said motorbanca experienced damaged/broken propeller shaft resulting to loss of propulsion and subsequently went dead on the water.

Upon receiving the report, CGSS Calbayog immediately dispatched a SAR team onboard the aluminum boat and also coordinated with F/Bca “Romar-Lea” to request assistance in the conduct of SAR operation and possible towing operation to the distressed motorbanca.

Motorbanca “Justin Joy” was successfully towed and safely brought to port of Calbayog City, Western Samar at 4PM of the same day. All passengers and crew were in all good physical condition and were subsequently sent home to their respective families.
