Personnel of Coast Guard Station (CGS) Iloilo and Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Dumangas rescued the eight (8) construction workers who were left behind at the Dumangas Port by the person who promised them a job last Friday, January 27, 2017.
Initial reports revealed that at around 9:30 PM of the said date, Coast Guard Station (CGS) Iloilo received a report from the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Region 6 Head, Mrs. Rosario T. Cabrera, that there were construction workers from Cebu who were loitering at Dumangas Port and who have not eaten for four (4) days already. Immediately, CGS Iloilo directed CGSS Dumangas personnel to take custody of the reported construction workers.
Accordingly, investigation conducted by CGSS Dumangas disclosed that said construction workers were promised a job in Iloilo City by a certain Engineer Edward Alferez but upon arrival at the said port, Alferez abandoned them.
The eight construction workers who are residents of Brgy. Tungkop, Minglanilla, Cebu were identified as: Alejandro Lariosa, 29 years old, Adelbert Sabanico, 26 years old, BrucelenCabillo, 23 years old, Russel Badayos, 26 years old, Rolando Badayos, 41 years old, Richard Badayos, 35 years old, Peter Alfante, 35 years old and Guadioso Villasencio, 39 years old respectively.
Around 11 PM of the same day, the assisted workers were ferried to CGS Iloilo for a temporary shelter and were later turned-over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region VI.
Β Β The following day after the final investigation conducted by the DSWD, said workers were escorted by CGS Iloilo personnel onboard Trans Asia Shipping and were ferried back to their hometown.
