PCG: Coast Guard Station (CGS) Ozamis personnel successfully rescued 619 passengers onboard M/V Trans Asia 2 which encountered engine trouble at vicinity waters of Polo Point, Plaridel, Misamis Occidental yesterday, April 17.

CGS Ozamis deployed its personnel onboard Aluminum Boat (AB) 255 together with M/V Royal Seal, a passenger barge of Daima Shipping Lines to the area to conduct rescue operations and successfully rescued all passengers of the distressed vessel.

Further investigation revealed that she departed Ozamis at 8:00 AM last April 16 bound for Cebu. Report said that the vessel’s starboard main engine automatically shut off when the ropes accidentally entangled at the tail shaft which was connected to the main engine.

CGS Ozamis safely transferred all passengers from MV Trans-Asia 2 to MV Royal Seal in good physical condition.

As of press time, passengers of the said trip are waiting until corrective measures are being initiated by the operators so that they could resume operations while others have cancelled their journey and opted to embark other vessels bound for Cebu.
