PCG: Elements of the Philippine Coast Guard recovered a cadaver of a 43-year-old male who drowned at vicinity waters off the Port of Calbayog, Calbayog City, Western Samar last May 2.
The victim was identified as Oscar Abanio, a resident of Barangay Aguititan, Calbayog City.
The incident was reported by a certain Hernan Jay Monforte, Duty Security Guard of Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) in Calbayog.
Investigation revealed that said victim went on a swimming venture after a drinking session and failed to resurface.
Personnel of Coast Guard Station Calbayog proceeded to the area and immediately conducted search and rescue (SR) operation. The victim was found floating in the shallow waters approximately two meters away from the shoreline of the Port of Calbayog.
SAR team tried to revive the victim by applying Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). However, the victim showed no response. Subsequently, SAR team brought the victim to Calbayog District Hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, the attending physician of Abanio declared him dead on arrival and properly turned over his remains to his family for proper disposition.
SAR team returned to proper station with no untoward incident happened.
