Five (5) persons onboard an unnamed motor banca were apprehended by Coast Guard Substation Catanduanes and PNP personnel, after being found to be carrying illegal fishing praphernalias onboard, at vicinity waters off Barangay Canlubi, Catanduanes last Tuesday, June 27.

The team was conducting Seaborne Operations at vicinity waters off Pandan, Catanduanes when they suddenly heard an explosion. They scoured the area and spotted an unnamed motorbanca painted with colors green and orange.

Upon boarding the subject motor banca, the team found out that it has no pertinent documents. Thereafter, the team towed the motor banca to the shoreline of Pandan with the following persons and items which were believed to be used in conducting illegal fishing:

b. One (1) pc bottle with blasting cap and blasting cap tied on still bar;

c. Three (3) bottles with blasting cap and detonating cord tied on still bar;

d. One (1) bottle emperador lights with blasting cap and detonating cord;

e. One (1) compressor tank;

f. 60m compressor hose;

g. Seven (7) pcs improvised frog shoes (yapak);

h. Two (2) pcs goggles;

i. One (1) pc tumbor (fish net);

j. One (1) pc padarawan (improvised underwater lantern);

k. One (1) pc improvised anchor with 60m rope;

l. Seventy (70) kilos of fish (dalagang bukid); and

m. One (1) unit motorize motor banca

The apprehended fishermen and motor banca including the fishing paraphernalias are presently under the custody of Pandan Municipal Police Station while awaiting filing of charges for violating Sec 92 of RA 10654 (Fishing Through Explosives, Noxious or Poisonous Substance, or Electricity) and Sec 10 of Provincial Ordinance 008-2014.
