PCG: Personnel of Coast Guard Substation Culion apprehended two fishermen for alleged illegal fishing activities at vicinity waters off Dipalian Island, Culion, Palawan last Friday, July 14.

A certain Mrs. Lucile Castro, a resident of Barangay Balala, Culion Palawan reported to the Coast Guard that an unnamed fishing banca was allegedly conducting dynamite fishing activities in the abovementioned area.

Upon organizing a joint MARPAT Patrol, personnel of CGSS Culion together with personnel of Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) of Culion, Palawan, the team immediately proceeded to the area and sighted a suspicious unnamed fishing boat painted white and blue. After inspection, the team found the following items onboard:

3 pcs  Fish net (Sibot)
220 kgs  Fish (Tala kitok)

The fishermen onboard were also identified as follows:

Ronnie Venturina, 33, owner of the mbca

Mr. Ricky Longkit, 25, companiom of Mr Venturina

According to the two fishermen, they were conducting fishing venture when they spotted an unknown fishing banca conducting dynamite fishing but as they approach near, the illegal fishers sped up their engine, sailed away and left the blasted fish behind. They decided to collect said fish and load it to their fishing boat

Fish samples were brought to BFAR Coron for further examination. Meanwhile two apprehended fishermen together with the confiscated items were properly turned-over to Municipal Agriculture Office of Culion, Palawan for proper disposition and for filling of appropriate charges in violation of Section 898 of RA. 8550 also known as “The Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998”.
