PCG: Personnel of Coast Guard K9 Team in Ozamis recovered a fragmentation hand grenade while conducting daily routine inspection at Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) Ozamis Passenger Terminal yesterday, 08 September 2017.

According to reports received, said team noticed an abandoned blue waist bag inside one of the cubicle at male comfort room and immediately conducted paneling at said cubicle with Coast Guard working dog “Niña”, an explosives detection dog.

Upon inspection, the dog exhibited positive indication confirming the presence of explosives inside the bag. Upon verification said team found said explosive and immediately informed the incident to Lieutenant Christopher S Domingo PCG, Station Commander of Coast Guard Station (CGS) Ozamis. Lieutenant Domingo instructed to cordon the said port. Upon approval of the PPA Ozamis Port Manager, Noeme W Calderon, the PPA Passenger Terminal operations was temporarily suspended. Said team further coordinated with the local police for the availability of Explosives Ordnance Detection personnel.

Subsequently, the CGK9 team conducted paneling and inspection in the entire passenger terminal area including a certain barge docked at the port. Upon completion of search and inspection, no other explosives and contrabands were found. Operations of said terminal then resumed and the barge was directed to depart to its next port of call. PNP Ozamiz City headed by Police Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido and the Port Manager arrived at the terminal and conducted an emergency meeting and assessment on the said incident.

Moreover, the recovered item was then turned over to PNP Ozamiz City for proper disposition and CGK9 Team Ozamis returned to proper station with no other untoward incident.
