PCG. Coast Guard Sub-station (CGSS) Calbayog rescued crew of motor banca “Miar Romcis” after he was seen floating unconscious by the Coast Guard - Marine Environmental Protection Unit (MEPU) at the vicinity waters off the Port of Calbayog City last October 22.
The personnel of CGSS Calbayog together with Mbca “Miar Romcis” crew immediately conducted search and rescue operations.
The team successfully recovered the victim’s body and brought him to Calbayog General Hospital for medical attention, however, was declared dead-on-arrival by the attending physician upon his arrival thereat.
Investigation revealed that while the motor banca was approaching Port of Calbayog City for docking, the victim together with six other crew jumped off the water to remove the mooring lines which was blocking her way. But due to sudden surge of big waves in the area, the victim accidentally hit his head to the rotating propeller of subject motor banca.
The victim was positively identified by his parents as Jomar Moriles, 25-year old and a resident of Brgy. Mataloto, Tagapul-an, Samar. The cadaver was properly turned-over to his family for proper disposition.
The PCG also advised the boat captain to file a Marine Protest relative to the incident.
