PCG. A 61-year old fisherman named as Mr Rolando Warisal was successfully rescued by a passing fishing banca yesterday at vicinity waters of Negros Occidental.

Mr Edmund Ligan, Officer-in-Charge of Rescue Sipalay City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) reported to Coast Guard Station Puerto Princesa that subject fisherman was already brought to City Health Office of Sipalay, Negros Occidental for medical attention.

Investigation conducted to Warisal revealed that he, together with a certain Sonny Quennio, departed Barangay Sta Monica, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan for a fishing venture. However, due to unfavorable sea and weather condition prevailing in the area, they decided to take shelter at a payaw (artificial fish sanctuary) near Rasa Island, Narra, Palawan.

Unfortunately, they were battered by big waves causing the motor banca to submerge. Quennio tried to recover the vessel but he accidentally fell on the water and drifted away.

The incident was earlier reported by the boat owner, Mr Rogelio Cervates to CGS Puerto Princesa.

The Coast Guard was already informed Warisal’s family on the successful search and rescue operations.

Meanwhile, search is still ongoing for Sonny Quennio. All ships/ watercrafts transiting in the said area were advised to be on the lookout of the said missing fisherman and Mbca Queen Eunice and to immediately report to the nearest PCG unit if sighted.
