PCG: One fisherman onboard Mbca “Amazing Grace” went missing while another one onboard his unnamed motorbanca managed to survive after they were battered by big waves and strong winds while on a fishing venture at vicinity waters of Sarangani province on February 17.

A certain Mr. Eldo Lumpid Salutan, Barangay Captain of Tagen, Sarangani, Davao Occidental reported the incident thru a cell phone call on February 17 at 12:30 pm.

Mr. Elizer Tiawin was able to swim to the nearest shoreline while Mr. Haron Nuňez, 40 years of age went missing.

Immediately, Coast Guard Station Sarangani together with Coast Guard Sub-station Lipol personnel dispatched AB-234 together with a civilian motorbanca to scour the incident area.

However, at 5:45 pm of the same day, SAR operation was temporarily suspended due to unfavorable sea and weather condition.

CGS Sarangani has already issued a Notice to Mariners to all inbound and outbound vessels transiting in the area and has advised nearby coastal barangays in the Municipality of Sarangani to be on the lookout of the missing fisherman and to render necessary assistance and to report immediately to the nearest Coast Guard unit if sighted.
