PCG: Two fishing vessels in Aparri, Cagayan were apprehended by the joint forces of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Quick Response Team (BFAR-QRT) after it was caught in the act of using illegal methods of fishing.

The seaborne patrol conducted by the MCS-3007 and MCS3010 at the vicinity waters of Aparri, Buguey and Claveria, Cagayan resulted to the apprehension of F/B Rae Anne and F/B Alexandria.

Investigation revealed that said boats were using the "Danish Seine" method of fishing that employs a dragnet. The net hangs vertically in the water with its bottom edge held down by weights and its top edge bouyed by floats, thereby allowing it to catch fishes en masse.

One unidentified fishing vessel, however, immediately escaped as the authorities neared the group. 

F/Bca Rae Anne was hauling its dragnet when the PCG and BFAR arrived on scene. 

Boarding inspection conducted by the BFAR-QRT revealed that F/Bca Rae Anne is skippered by Remy Antonio and operated by Renato Alariao, both from Minanga, Buguey, Cagayan. It was manned by 22 fishermen. 

Both fishing vessels were apprehended for violation of the Fisheries Administrative Order 246, otherwise known as Banning the Operation of Danish Seine and Modified Danish Seine in Philippine Waters. It was towed to Port Irene, Sta. Ana, Cagayan where BFAR-QRT Region 2 conducted an inventory and prepared necessary documents for the endorsement and filing of appropriate charges on the two fishing boats.
