PCG: An oil spill from a capsized yacht in Manila Yacht Club was immediately containded by the Coast Guard last Wednesday, June 1.

The motor yacht Defender, owned by Uso Hiroshi, reportedly capsized and went half-submerged while moored at the club at 4:00 a.m.

While no casualty was reported, traces of oil spill were found at the area by the personnel of Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) CCP and the Marine Environmental Protection Unit (MEPU) in Manila.

Oil spill booms were immediately laid-out while the clean-up and recovery operations of the oil sheen were conducted using absorbent materials.

The owner was informed by his caretaker of the incident and the PCG advised the boat captain to file for a marine protest.

Meanwhile, MEPO-Manila issued a Marine Pollution Inspection Apprehension Report (MARPOL IAR) to the boat captain who was also advised to appear at CGSS CCP for adjudiction.
