M/V Chang Hang Fing Hai, a Chinese-flagged vessel loaded with 55,000 tons of Lateritic Nickel ore ran aground while transiting at the vicinity waters off Cagdianao, Surigao del Norte in Mindanao last Saturday, June 11.

The incident was reported by the Substation Commander of CGSS San Jose, P01 Deiparine PCG to Station Commander of CGS Surigao. Upon confirmation, a Coast Guard team was dispatched to the area of incident to conduct assessment and to render necessary assistance.

Investigation revealed that the ship loaded its cargo from Cagdianao Mining Corporation (CMC) and was bound to China. While navigating, the ship accidentally ran through the shallow waters and subsequently ran aground, causing damages to her water ballast tank number two (2) at the port side.

All twenty two (22) crew members onboard the vessel were reported safe.

CGSS San Jose advised the master to file a Marine Protest and to conduct an underwater hull inspection to further verify the damage incurred on the bottom hull of the vessel prior resuming to her normal operations.
