M/V βSuper Shuttle Ferry 3β with 48 crew members and 27 truck helpers and was carrying various rolling cargoes onboard encountered engine trouble and subsequently went dead on the water at the vicinity waters off Malapascua Island while sailing from Masbate to Cebu early this morning.
A report thru 911 hotline was received by the Coast Guard Action Center in Manila that Super Shuttle Ferry 5 was dead on water at the waters of Bantayan Island and needs rescue assistance on august 2 at 4:48 am.
CGAC immediately relayed the report to Coast Guard District Central Visayas for verification and appropriate action.
CGS Caticlan however, found out that the vessel in distress was not Super Ferry Shuttle 5 but Super Shuttle Ferry 3 instead.
At 6:15am of the same day, CGS Cebu made contact with the chief mate of the distressed vessel and confirmed that she was dead on the water at the waters near Malapascua Island in Daanbantayan, Cebu.
CGS Cebu immediately coordinated the incident to the Super Shuttle Ferries management.
The shipping company hired M/Tug Meka to conduct towing operations to MV Super Shuttle Ferry 3.
Both vessel are expected to arrive at Ouano Wharf in Mandaue City, Cebu on, August 3 at 3 am.
