Following the recent bombing incident in Davao last 02 September 2016, the Philippine Coast Guard has declared Full Alert Status. Security measures such as intensified covert and overt security within port facilities and departing passenger vessels, random paneling onboard passenger vessels specially to unattended baggage and motorcycles using K9 Dogs, coordination among port security, PNP, Philippine Army within the area of responsibility and intelligence gathering among the Uniformed Services are currently being carried out nationwide by the Philippine Coast Guard.
Coast Guard District Northern Mindanao, whose area of responsibility covers a maritime jurisdiction of 3,175 sq NM, 986 KM length of coastline along the three (3) Coastal Regions, seven (7) Coastal Provinces, seventeen (17) coastal municipalities, and two thousand twenty0two (2,022) coastal barangays, has been doubling their physical presence in all ports and coastal areas within Northern Mindanao through the following interventions:
1. Deployment of Floating Assets
The Command currently has the following floating assets: One (1) Fifty-Two (52) meter search and rescue vessel (SARV-001) currently docked at the Macabalan Port, Cagayan de Oro, One (1) MCS Vessel of BFAR manned by PCG personnel currently at Nasipit Port, Butuan City, one (1) small craft DF-311 at Dapitan City, four (4) rubber boats and eighteen (18) aluminum boats strategically deployed along the six (6) Coast Guard Stations within Northern Mindanao. These floating assets are constantly being utilized during the intensified conduct of Maritime Patrols within the coasts of Northern Mindanao.
2. Deployment of Special Operations Unit personnel, K9 handlers and Working Dogs and Field Station personnel
CGDNM has deployed its Special Operations Unit personnel, K9NM personnel and Field Station personnel to various areas within its AOR to augment in the intensified Maritime Safety Operations in its Stations and Substation in all ports within Northern Mindanao to ensure the safety and security of the general maritime riding public as indicated below:
3. Establishing of Passenger Assistance Centers (PACs)
CGDNM has established Passenger Assistance Center in the various ports of within Northern Mindanao to aid the maritime riding public to ensure their safe and secure travel.
4. Conduct of Random Panelling in Passenger Terminals and departing vessel.
Our Explosive Detecting Dogs (EDDs) conducts random inspection of baggage in passenger terminals and the departing passenger vessels to ensure the security of the riding public.
5. Intensified Seaborne and Shore Patrols
The Six (6) Coast Guard Stations along with their respective sub-stations are currently conducting intensified seaborne patrols along the coasts of Northern Mindanao to deter and prevent any suspicious activities or operations at sea. Also coastal barangays are encouraged to inform the PCG of any nefarious activity at sea within their coastal barangays. Β
