PCG: The Coast Guard's mission to disseminate valuable information on the latest Marine Environmental laws continue as two of its related units successfully held a two-day seminar on the recently approved Memorandum Circulars in Ormoc, Leyte.
The Office of the Deputy Chief of Coast Guard Staff for Marine Environmental Protection (CG-9) and Marine Environmental Protection Command (MEPCOM) headed the seminar that was participated on by various PCG personnel from Coast Guard District Eastern Visayas, its PCG stations and sub-stations, and the District's Marine Environmental Protection Units (MEPU).
Stakeholders from different shipping and oil companies were also present to include Camotes Ferry Services, Goldstar Shipping Lines Inc., Supercat, Catingin Port, Ocean Fast Ferries Inc., SRN Fast Sea Craft Inc., Lite Shipping, Jomalia Shipping and PMI Shipping.
CDR GODOFREDO G VAGILIDAD PCG and LCDR FATIMA ALELI A ANGELES PCG led the information dissemination of the five recently approved memorandum circulars pertaining to Prevention of Pollution from Garbage, Tank Cleaning, Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan (SOPEP), and Sewage Dumping that were approved last December 2014 by the Secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and published last February 2015.
CG-9 and MEPCOM aim to achieve optimal implementation of marine environmental laws and regulations. The same seminar were likewise conducted in Manila, Cebu and Cagayan de Oro.
