PCG: Two fishermen were apprehended by the Coast Guard last Friday for poisoning fish at the municipal waters of Malapatan, Sarangani Province.

The suspects identified as Richard Gillo-Ano, 43; and Generoso Talugas, 50, were using a poisonous substance locally known as lagtang to attract and catch fish.Β 

They were arrested by the joint maritime patrol team of Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Malapatan and Deputized Fish Warden of LGU Malapatan for the violation of Republic Act 10654 Section 92, otherwise known as "Fishing Through Explosives, Noxious or Poisonous Substance or Electricity".

Investigations revealed that Gillo-Ano and Talugas were onboard a moored Fish Aggregating Device five nautical miles off Barangay Lun Padidu in Malapatan, Sarangani. The inspecting team discovered a pail of fish caught using lagtang.Β 

The apprehended fishermen were turned-over to PNP Malapatan for custody and further investigation.
