PCG: The Philippine Coast Guard in Eastern Visayas arrested a Samar native last Tuesday for illegally constructing a boat using undocumented logs with an estimated value of Php 3.5 million.
The suspect was identified as Dioniso Pacarapara, a resident of Barangay Bagacay, Daram, Samar.
Pacarapara failed to present pertinent documents for the lumbers used for the construction of his large wooden boat.
Investigations revealed that the logs came from Calbayog, Western Samar.
The suspect was immediately apprehended by the joint Maritime Law Enforcement team of the Coast Guard Station (CGS) Catbalogan, Field Station Eastern Visayas and Special Operations Unit that were deployed under the command of PCG Eastern Visayas District Commander, CAPT GREGORIO ADEL JR.
Meanwhile the DENR personnel confiscated the six-foot wooden boat, 177 pieces of lumber, and the boat keel.
The confiscated items were later turned-over to the barangay captain of Bagacay for safekeeping.
Pacarapara is facing charges for violating the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines: Possession of Timber or Other Forest Products without the Legal Documents Required by Existing Forest Laws.
