PCG: The Philippine Coast Guard, through the Office of the Deputy Chief of Coast Guard Staff for Marine Environmental Protection (CG-9) together with Marine Environmental Protection Command (MEPCOM), conducted a seminar in Information Dissemination on the newly approved Memorandum Circulars (MCs) which were held on various Coast Guard Districts Western Visayas and Central Visayas on 17-18 November 2015 and 24-25 November 2015 respectively.

The seminar was participated by Philippine Coast Guard personnel from different Coast Guard Stations in Iloilo and Cebu, Marine Environmental Protection Unit (MEPU), Headquarters Coast Guard Western Visayas (HCGWV), Headquarters Coast Guard Central Visayas (CGDCV) and stakeholders from different shipping and oil companies such as Petron, Harmony, Iloilo Jar Corp., Kool Co. Inc., Agro Bulk Marine Corp., Supercat Fast Ferry Corp., FF Cruz Shipping Corp., DBI., Ocean Jet, Millennium Shipping,TruStar, Jetti, Alal Capricorn, Milagrosa J, Map 2000 Terminal, Seaford Shipping and Seaoil Philippines.

LCDR GODOFREDO G VAGILIDAD PCG gave a lecture on the five newly approved memorandum circulars pertaining to the Prevention of Pollution from Garbage, Tank Cleaning, Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan (SOPEP), Sewage and Dumping which were approved by SOTC on December 2014 and published last February 2015.

The Office of the DCS for MEP, CG-9 and MEPCOM aims to promote awareness and continuing knowledge to the PCG personnel and various stakeholders with regard to the newly approved MCs for an efficient and effective implementation of laws and regulations governing marine environmental protection.

In addition, it was also an opportunity to collect additional information, suggestions or recommendations from our PCG personnel and stakeholders for better implementation of said MCs through revisions or issuance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

In line with the Office of the DCS for MEP, CG9 and MEPCOM’s objective, they will continue the conduct of said seminars to various Coast Guard districts tentatively until the first quarter of 2016.
