PCG. Search and rescue operation by the Coast Guard Sub-station Laoang together with the local rescue unit and family of the victims is still ongoing for the nine passengers and crew of 2 unregistered motor bancas who went missing during the onslaught of Typhoon Nona last week in Northern Samar.
Previous reports revealed that two (2) unregistered motor bancas attempted to cross the Laoang River at the midst of the typhoon. Due to strong winds and current, the motor bancas capsized and all passengers and crew were drifted by the strong current.
The SAR team advised all the local authorities and fisher folks to report any sightings of the said missing nine passengers and crew. A Notice to Mariners was also sent to all watercrafts transiting in the area advising them to be on the lookout for the victims.
The 9 missing passengers and crew of the two (2) motor bancas were identified as follows:
