PCG: An ailing Ilonggo crew of a foreign bulk carrier was successfully evacuated by the Coast Guard in Basco, Batanes last April 3.

Percinal A Cantomayor, 24, was suffering from high grade fever, convulsions and a swollen right face for three days.

The personnel of Coast Guard Station (CGS) Basco received a call thru VHF marine band radio from MV Nord Discovery, a Panama-flagged bulk carrier with 21 crew onboard and skippered by Capt Jose G Copuaco, requesting for the medical evacuation of Cantomayor.

The ailing crew was evacuated at approximately 11 nautical miles north off Batan Island, Basco, Batanes at around 5:55PM.

Personnel of CGS Basco immediately coordinated with Basco General Hospital and dispatched a team composed of three station personnel and three Special Operations Group members onboard AB-046.

The Coast Guard conducted a successful medevac despite rough weather conditions prevailing in the area.

The patient was confined under the medical supervision of Dr. Samuel B Dosono in Basco General Hospital for further medical observation.
