PCG: Two propellers and the port rudder of MV Catalyn-A were damaged after said vessel ran aground at the shallow portion of Coron, Palawan last Saturday, April 11.

MV Catalyn-A was reportedly underway from Culion to Coron when it accidentally ran aground a mile off Balinsasayaw Resort and damaged its propellers and rudder.

Its captain, Wilfredo Fabregas, sent a distress call to Coast Guard Station (CGS) Coron  around 8:30 am and requested for assistance.

Upon assessment, the responding team decided to wait for the highest tide to extract the grounded vessel. By 12:30 pm, the Coast Guard have successfully extracted the vessel and towed it to the port of Coron where 17 crew members disembarked in good physical condition.

CGS Coron personnel advised the master of MV Catalyn-A to file a marine protest and secure a certificate of sea worthiness before resuming normal operation.
