PCG: The ailing third officer of a Panamanian-flagged cargo vessel was successfully evacuated by the elements of Coast Guard Station (CGS) Albay and Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Victory at the anchorage area of Legazpi City yesterday, May 11.

Third Mate Rex Berdo, 32 years old, reportedly suffered from hypertension, headache and dizzniness while working onboard MV Hanjin Shimanami.

Capt. Angelito Dumaya immediately requested the assistance of the Coast Guard and Port State Control for Berdo's medical evacuation. 

Immediately, CGS Albay and CGSS Victory, with the PSC Inspector, were accompanied by Genalyn Docejo, agent/representative of Alpha Ship Management Corporation, to evacuate Berdo from the ship. The team rushed the patient to Albay Doctors Hospital for proper medical attention.

 MV Hanjin Shimanami came from Port of Surigao, Surigao City loaded with more or less 57,000 metric tons of nickel ore enroute to China when the incident transpired.
