PCG: Three Filipino fishermen were rescued by the crew of a foreign bulk carrier more or less 84 NM off Lawigan, Mati, Davao Oriental last Sunday, July 5 around 1 PM .
The survivors rescued by MV Spring Zephyr were identified as follows: Edwin D Mayordomo, 29 years old, married, resident of barangay Fatima, General Santos City; Adel D De Filipe, 30 years old, married, resident of Purok Masunorin, Barangay San Isidro, General Santos City; and Eugene G Pepito, 30 years old, single, resident of Sarangani province.
Personnel of Coast Guard Sub Station (CGSS) Dapa received a call from Coast Guard Station (CGS) Surigao on July 06 informing that the crew of MV Spring Zephyr intends to evacuate said rescued victims 11 NM east of General Luna, Siargao Island, Surigao Del Norte. The Search and Rescue (SAR) team of CGSS Dapa immediately rendered assistance to the above mentioned victims.
Further investigation revealed that the fishermen encountered strong winds and big waves while on a fishing venture last July 02, thereby causing their fishing boat Lightboat Glady 5 to capsize. The fishermen were then drifted to Mati fishing ground for almost three days until they were rescued by the MV Spring Zephyr.
Physical check-up with the survivors confirmed that they are all in good physical condition.
The survivors were then properly turned-over to Mr. Basilio Cabidas, Operation-In-Charge of Glader Fishing Incorporated and departed from CGS Surigao bound to Tambler, General Santos City.
