PCG: The Philippine Coast Guard and local police in Danao, Cebu retrieved a cadaver seen floating at the vicinity waters of Barangay Estaca in Compostela, Cebu last July 09.

The victim identified as Romer Bayanola, 22 years old, male and a resident of Maracas, Lahug, Cebu City, reportedly went fishing with a certain Analiza C. Del Mundo last July 08 at said barangay but was drifted away from the shore due to strong winds.

Del Mundo managed to swim back to shore safely and was brought by concerned residents to Barangay Captain Leonida Goc-ong of Barangay Estaca where she was given medical treatment.

Goc-ong reported the incident to the Coast Guard and requested for a search and rescue (SAR) operations for Bayanola.

Immediately, the personnel of Coast Guard Sub Station (CGSS) Danao conducted a surface search along the waters of Compostela and its adjacent area but yielded negative result. The SAR operation was temporarily suspended due to poor visibility and unfavorable weather condition.

The following day, Goc-Ong informed CGSS Danao that a cadaver was seen floating off Barangay Estaca. CGSS Danao, together with PNP personnel, recovered the lifeless body of Bayanola.

The body was properly turned-over to the relatives of the victim and was brought to Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes in Colon, Cebu City for proper disposition.
