PCG: A trapped fisherman in Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur was successfully rescued by the elements of the Philippine Coast Guard last Saturday, August 22.

Melanio Pimentel was reportedly catching small shrimps at the Buaya River but failed to get across due to strong current and torrential rain showers.

The incident was reported by Engr. Ligaya Jose of  the Marine Environmental Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) to the personnel of Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Candon who immediately deployed its men to rescue Pimentel.

Through the speedy coordination of the Marine Environmental Protection Unit Northwestern Luzon (MEPU-NWLZN) with the CDRRMO and the PNP-Candon, Pimentel was successfully rescued in good physical condition.
