DOTC-PCG: Elements of the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Babak retrieved the cadaver of an 11-year old boy who drowned while swimming at the vicinity waters of Villarica Wharf on New Yearβs Day.
The victim, Welsil John Anuber, and his four-year old sister was reportedly left by their mother to her live-in partner Joven Anuber onboard their pleasure yacht which was berthed at the Villarica Wharf.
Joven, however, fell asleep while the victim was still swimming and was unable to rescue the latter when he drowned.
Gensan Tobias, the mother of the victim and a resident of Barangay Villarica, Igacos, Davao Del Norte, reported the drowning incident to CGSS Babak and requested for assistance.
Personnel of CGSS Babak immediately conducted search and rescue (SAR) operation on and requested assistance from the personnel of DF-315 and from the local residents. The SAR operation, however, was temporarily terminated due to darkness and strong current with negative result.
The following day, CGSS Babak together with DF-315 personnel resumed the SAR operation and the cadaver of Welsil John Anuber was found and retrieved under the port side of the yacht berthing space at 6:45 AM.
Personnel of said sub-station reported the said drowning incident to Babak Police Sub-station, Barangay Villarica, Igacos, Davao Del Norte and properly turned over the victimβs cadaver for proper disposition.
