DOTC-PCG: PCG Commandant, Rear Admiral Rodolfo D Isorena lauds the personnel of Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Boracay who rescued 14 local tourists, two of which are children, after a motorbanca collided with a speedboat at the vicinity of Cagban Port, Boracay Island last Monday, January 6.

Said sub-station received the report at 1:45 PM of the said day regarding the collision between Mbca Boracay Regency Beach Resort 3 and Mbca Nonoy Edwin 2.

Accordingly, Mbca Boracay Regency Beach Resort 3 was transporting one local and six foreign passengers while Mbca Nonoy Edwin 2 was loaded with 14 local passengers when the incident occurred.

The Coast Guard Response Team immediately proceeded to the area for rescue assistance and found out that the motorbanca already half-submerged. Said team transferred the passengers of Mbca Nonoy Edwin 2 to the rescue boat including two passengers namely Noel Domaquin and Manuel Ureta who sustained minor bruises and were brought to a nearby clinic for medical treatment.

Further investigation revealed that the said speedboat was enroute to Caticlan while Mbca Nonoy Edwin 2 was enroute to Boracay Island. The speedboat suddenly crossed but miscalculated her distance causing her to collide with motorbanca’s starboard bow.

Both captains were summoned by CGS Caticlan for investigation.
