DOTC-PCG: Fourteen fishermen were apprehended by the Coast Guard for illegal fishing along the coastal waters of Barangay Poblacion, Rapu-Rapu, Albay last Sunday, January 26.

Reports revealed that a certain Edgar Echalas, 46 years old of Purok 4, Barangay Poblacion, Rapu-Rapu, Albay informed Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Rapu-Rapu that four fishing banca β€œKumpit” were conducting "woswos”, a strictly prohibited fishing method which drives fishes into a net.

The personnel of said sub-station headed by Seaman First Class (SN1) Ibatuan PCG, together with Barangay Tanod led by Serafin Ebrada, and the local police headed by SPO4 Jesus Espenilla PNP, inspected the four Kumpits and confiscated an active gear, rope and a net that were used to conduct woswos.

The confiscated paraphernalia used in illegal fishing and all fishermen were properly turned over to the local police in Rapu-Rapu for proper disposition.
