DOTC-PCG: Elements of the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Donsol were still searching for a fisherman in Donsol, Sorsogon who went missing since Friday, February 14.

The 23-year old victim identified as Richard Fernandez reportedly went on a fishing venture with Florante Florano at the vicinity waters of Donsol, Sorsogon and Ticao Straight on February 12.

Reports revealed that Fernandez jumped into the sea to search for his companion whom he believed to have drowned while searching for a hook that fell off the water. Fernandez and Florano then decided to swim back to shore when their motor boat was drifted away by strong winds and sea current.

Unfortunately, only Florano remained afloat using his improvised floating devise while Fernandez went missing.

On the following midnight, Florano was rescued by a Navy vessel while it was on a seaborne patrol operation off Southeast Kabatiran Point, Pioduran, Albay. He was ferried back to Donsol, Sorsogon and was turned-over to their barangay officials.

CGSS Donsol immediately conducted search and rescue (SAR) operation for Fernandez but yielded negative report.

They advised all motor banca transiting the area to be on the look-out and render necessary assistance to subject fisherman and report immediately to CGSS Donsol for proper disposition.
