PCG:COMMO AARON T RECONQUISTA PCG, Acting Commander of the Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog (CGDSTL), has recently lauded the efforts of Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Gasan in rescuing 46 passengers from a distressed motorboat between the vicinity waters of Baton Island and Dos Hermanas Island.
The incident which occurred on Easter Sunday involved M/B Calatrava with 46 passengers onboard.
Initial reports revealed that the boat encountered engine trouble around 4:30PM while enroute to Talao-Talao, Lucena City leaving all of its passengers stranded at sea.
Upon receipt of information, the personnel of CGSS Gasan immediately conducted a search and rescue (SAR) operations onboard F/B Cornik and sighted the distressed boat around 6:00PM.
All passengers were transferred to F/B Cornik while M/B Calatrava was towed to the nearest port.
The SAR team arrived at the Port of Cawit and safely assisted in the disembarkation of all 46 passengers who were all in good physical condition.
