PCG: An ailing crew of a foreign cargo carrier in Currimao, Ilocos Norte was successfully evacuated by the personnel of Coast Guard Station (CGS) Currimao yesterday, 23 April.

Chief Cook Alberto C. Lumiguen, 40 years old, was reportedly complaining of lower right abdominal pain while working onboard M/V Red Lotus.

The incident was reported by Jeremy Balikas, Crewing Manager of Oro Philippines Shipping to CGS Currimao and requested for a medical evacuation for Lumiguen.

Immediately, CGS Currimao coordinated with the master of the vessel to rendezvous at approximately 4 NM Northwest off Currimao, Ilocos Norte to evacuate the patient. Personnel of said sub-station together with the local agent of Oro Philippines Shipping proceeded to said area for the medevac.

Lumiguen was then properly turned-over to the Quarantine Office at Barangay Maglaoi Norte in Currimao and was brought to Mariano Marcos Medical Center at Batac, Ilocos Norte for immediate medical attention.

M/V Red Lotus, a Panama-registered cargo vessel, 42,887 GT/ 27,547 NT is skippered by Captain Florencio D. Cloma with 21 Filipino crew members.
