PCG: The joint rescue team of the Philippine Coast Guard and its Auxiliary counterpart in Iloilo have retrieved the body of a drowned teenager at Jaen Beach Resort in Barangay MV Hechanova, Leganes, Iloilo last Sunday, July 13.
The victim identified as John Erwin Lorenzo Umadhay, 16, was reportedly swimming with his family at the beach when he drifted off to the deeper portion of the sea and disappeared.Β
The victim's family immediately called the attention of the resort's caretaker when they have noticed him flailing and screaming for help.
The caretaker, Mrs. Judith Batislaon, urgently informed Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Dumangas to render necessary assistance.
The personnel of CGSS Dumangas, together with members of the PCG Auxilliary 612.3 Division arrived shortly to conduct search and rescue operations for Umadhay. He was retrieved 20 meters off the shoreline, was turned-over to his parents and brought to the Western Visayas State University Hospital for medical treatment.
Umadhay was declared dead on arrival by attending physician Dr. Mark Basquez.
The cadaver was brought to Somo Funeral Homes, Sta Barbara, Iloilo for proper disposition.
