PCG: PCG Commandant, Vice Admiral Rodolfo D Isorena has lauded the efforts of the Β personnel of Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Sta Clara for rescuing five crew members of a half-submerged mooring tug in Batangas last Wednesday, July 16 during the onslaught of Typhoon Glenda.

MTug Soteria 2 drifted towards the module yard of AG&P Pier Site due to big waves and strong winds and was unable to maneuver to safety until it submerged.

The incident report was received by Coast Guard Station (CGS) Batangas from A.J. Abaya of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO).

The swift rescue operations by the Coast Guard saved the lives of the crew who were later identified as the following:

  1. Capt. Danilo Yamson, 43 years old
  2. C/E Jackson Ramirez, 46 years old
  3. AB Mercado Mahia, 33 years old
  4. Oiler Aljon Mahinay, 22 years old
  5. Oiler Joel Alpay, 42 years old.

The rescued crew were brought to CGS Batangas and were provided medical assistance, food and other basic needs.

The company representative of MTug Soteria 2 reported to CGS Batangas to fetch the rescued crew and brought them to their office at Shell Tabangao, Batangas City.

Said station further advised the vessel to file a Marine Protest relative to the incident.

Mooring Tug Soteria 2 is owned and operated by Safe Seas Shipping Agency.
