PCG: The joint team of Coast Guard Station (CGS) Zamboanga and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) IX confiscated four sacks of dried shark’s skin while conducting vessel inspection onboard a cargo vessel at the Port of Zamboanga City last Monday, July 28.
The Vessel Safety Enforcement Inspection (VSEI) Team of CGS Zamboanga and Law Enforcer of BFAR IX found said cargoes onboard MV Span Asia 1 which is prohibited according to Senate Bill No. 536.
Said law bans the catching, selling, purchasing, possessing, transporting, importing and exporting of all sharks and rays of any part thereof in the Philippines.
The VSEI Team turned-over the said cargoes to BFAR IX for proper disposition.
MV Span Asia 1 of 5,404 GT/2,718 NT is owned and operated by Philippine Span Asia Carrier Corporation and skippered by Captain Jaime T Timario.
