PCG: A total of 22 pieces of lumber amounting to P42,448 were confiscated by the joint team of the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Liminangcong, Naval Intelligence Security Group (NISG) and Bantay Dagat Palawan last Thursday, August 14.
The logs were found hidden underwater a few hours after the team conducted a seaborne patrol in the mangrove area of Malampaya Sound Landscape and Seascape (MSLS) in Barangay Liminangcong.
Subsequently, the team heard a chainsaw rattling from a nearby mountain and immediately located the sound to stop the illegal logging activity.
An unidentified man was caught in the act cutting down trees and was ordered by the authorities to surrender.
The suspect, however, refused to yield and escaped with his chainsaw.
The team then took photos in the area to serve part as evidence in the documentation prior to returning back to shore.
The confiscated 22 pieces of abandoned lumber (Intsia Bijuga or Ipil), equivalent to 758 board feet and with a total market value of Php 42,448.00, were brought to said sub-station for proper inventory.
Said lumber was turned over by Bantay Dagat Palawan to CGSS Liminangcong for temporary custody.
