PCG: A total of two crew members and 12 passengers were rescued from a motorbanca which capsized approximately 4 nautical miles off Cagbalete Island, Mauban, Quezon around 4 PM last August 16.
A certain Mr. Joseph Hutalia, a resident of Lucena City, appeared to Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Mauban and reported an hired unregistered motorbanca capsized.
Personnel of said sub-station immediately proceeded to the area to conduct initial investigation.
An unnamed motorbanca was plying near the vicinity and successfully rescued the passengers. They were safely brought to Cabana Resort in Mauban while the ill-fated motorbanca was towed by another passing fishing banca to the shoreline of Sitio Dalig, Cagsiay II in Mauban.
Further information disclosed that while steaming from Sitio Dalig to Cagbalete Island, the boat encountered strong wind and big waves which caused it to capsize.
One of the passengers, a certain Pedro Pablo, 61 years old, a resident of Las Pinas, Metro Manila, suffered from cardiac arrest and immediately brought to Mauban District Hospital for treatment but declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
