PCG: The cadaver of a 21-year old fisherman was recovered while his brother remains missing two days after they were both struck by lightning in Bolinao, Pangasinan last August 16.
According to Benedicto Mendoza, father of the victims Ramil and Rommel, they went on a fishing venture onboard a bamboo raft at the UP Marine Science Building in Barangay Luciente 1st, Sitio Picucubuan when they were struck by lightning and drowned.
The incident was reported by a certain Mr. Cris Diolaso to the Coast Guard Sub-Station Bolinao.
Immediately, the personnel of CGSS Bolinao proceeded to the said area while the UP Marine Science divers also responded and conducted search and retrieval operation.
The cadaver of Rommel was successfully recovered and was turned-over to the local police of Bolinao for proper disposition.
CGSS Bolinao also provided assistance to the UP divers in conducting underwater search and retrieval operation for possible retrieval of Ramil, 45 years old, but yielded negative result.
Due to strong current prevailing in the area, the search operation was temporary suspended and divers intend to continue if weather and sea condition permits.
The PCG advised barangay officials and local fishermen plying in the area to be on the look-out for any floating cadavers in the area and to report to the nearest Coast Guard station if sighted.
