PCG: A trapped pawikan in Palaui Island was released at sea by the Philippine Coast Guard and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) staff yesterday, August 20.
The pawikan was found by 60 year old fisherman Jaime Yosores in his baklad (fish trap) around 6:30 AM and immediately turned over the turtle to the personnel of Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) San Vicente.
The turtle was measured at 43 cm in length, 37 cm wide and weighed 4.1 kg.
The personnel of CGSS San Vicente coordinated with MENRO Sta Ana, Cagayan for proper releasing of said green turtle. At 09:51 AM, Mr. Danilo R. Rugrug Jr., MENRO staff, came aboard CGSS San Vicente to conduct tagging of said green turtle.
At the same day, the personnel of CGSS San Vicente together with K9-NELZN, MEPU-NELZN and MENRO staff, onboard a motorbanca, released the said pawikan a mile off Palaui Island, Sta Ana, Cagayan.
