PCG: Five fishermen were seized by the joint elements of Coast Guard Mobile Team, Local Government Unit (LGU) and the local police in Daram, Western Samar last October 22 for illegal gathering of shell fish at the vicinity waters of Owacon Island, Daram.

The suspects, all residents of Barangay Guinsorongan, Catbalogan City were onboard an unregistered motorbanca when they were caught in the act of illegal fishing by the joint maritime patrol operatives.

The following fishermen were apprehended for violating Municipal Ordinance Number 14 Series of 2008, Section 64 and 69 known as “Unauthorized Fishing and Regulation on Commercial Gathering of Shell Fish”.

1. Lanian Ilao, 40 years old, (skipper, owner and operator)

2. Boboy Hernandez, 38 years old, (crew)

3. Renz Dacalos, 35 years old, (crew)

4. Joel Dacalos, 25 years old, (crew)

5. Tomy Dacalos, 24 years old, (crew)

The team also confiscated items such as one compressor and a roll hose more or less 100 meters.

Subsequently, the perpetrators and their motorbanca were properly turned-over to Municipal Coastal Resources Management of Daram for proper disposition while the confiscated items were placed under the custody of Coast Guard Station (CGS) Catbalogan for safe keeping.
