The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) signed the memorandum of agreement ( MOA ) for the installation of Water Quality Monitoring Equipment (WQME), together with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau (DENR – EMB) and the City Government of Manila in Baseco Beachfront, Tondo, Manila yesterday, 09 February 2021.

Under the MOA, the PCG shall provide technical personnel to assist the DENR – EMB in maintaining the WQME buoys, as well as in monitoring said floating devices to minimize loss during natural calamities.

The PCG shall also report any change on the location of WQME buoys and undertake further support that may be needed by the monitoring station.

According to the City Government of Manila, the installation of the WQME is one of the plans of actions specified in the Writ of Mandamus issued by the Supreme Court, which directs various government offices to rehabilitate Manila Bay.

Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno thanked the PCG and the DENR – EMB for their active service towards the Manila Bay rehabilitation program, emphasizing how unity among government agencies will lead to the successful implementation of said marine environmental protection initiative.
