Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant, Admiral George V Ursabia Jr welcomed the Ambassador of Germany to the Philippines, Honorable Anke Reiffenstuel who paid a courtesy visit at the National Headquarters, Port Area, Manila yesterday, 18 February 2021.
Issues discussed during the meeting included stronger cooperation between the Philippines and Germany, specifically in safeguarding maritime domains, ensuring maritime security, countering terrorism, and conducting humanitarian missions in the country.
Admiral Ursabia and Ambassador Reiffenstuel also talked about the assistance the Germany may extend to the PCG towards the acquisition of more advanced aerial assets that are critical in providing rescue assistance to victims of natural calamities.
Admiral Ursabia shared how the two H145 light twin engine helicopters of the PCG from Germany were able to effectively augment the national government in aiding thousands of affected families during the onslaught of Super Typhoon Rolly and Typhoon Ulysses last year.
During the courtesy visit, the German Ambassador also thanked the PCG for providing swift and safe transport assistance to IOM Philippines personnel who brought several tons of relief supplies to typhoon-stricken localities in the Bicol region.
